The governments of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) are currently analyzing the creation of an intraregional cargo and passenger ferry service (Ro-Pax) in the Southern Caribbean, whose main objective is to support food security in the region in view of the constant disruptions in international trade. In the context of this proposal still in the making, the University of Trinidad and Tobago held the online seminar “Short Sea Shipping Services in the Southern Caribbean Region” on April 9, where the feasibility of an initiative of this magnitude was analyzed, as well as the challenges involved, from different approaches, presented by a series of distinguished panelists.
