At the invitation of the Directorate General of Merchant Marine (DGMM) – Maritime Authority of Honduras -, the Inter-American Association for Environmental Defense (AIDA), High Seas Alliance (HSA), MarViva Foundation and the SARGADOM Project; the Central American Commission for Maritime Transport (COCATRAM) participated in the 1st briefing on the BBNJ Agreement – Road to Ratification – and the 1st Meeting of the National Working Group for the designation of the Thermal Dome as a Particularly Sensitive Sea Area in the High Seas.
The informative session was held in the city of Tegucigalpa, Honduras; on April 2, 2024. During the activity, Mr. Jorge Jimenez explained the importance and characteristics of the Thermal Dome. Then Ms. Sara Jurado, SARGADOM Project Coordinator, explained the focal points, the next steps towards a Specially Sensitive Marine Area – Thermal Dome.
